If you know the astrological positions in your Natal Chart, the best use of the information here comes from reading the entries for your Sun Sign, your Moon Sign, your Ascendant Sign . . . and the sign where any other significant cluster of Natal Planets is located.
Rebecca's note: In both astronomy and astrology, the celestial phenomenon known as the New Moon occurs at the moment the Sun and the Moon occupy exactly the same point in the sky-map of the Zodiac. The Sun takes approximately one month to travel through one sign of the Zodiac. In this same amount of time, the Moon travels through all twelve signs of the Zodiac . . . changing signs about once every two and a half days. A New Moon, occurs, therefore, about every 30 days.In astrology, the metaphors of the various planet placements at the time of the occurrence describe the experiences, interests and themes of the coming 4+ weeks in everyone's life -- influenced as always by these same placements in a person's Natal chart, the map of the sky at the time of birth. (Like placing a transparency on a picture, and gaining thereby an altered, or perhaps more dimensional, picture.)
The metaphor of the New Moon, this monthly "alliance" of the two most individually significant celestial bodies, denotes a renewed alignment of one's sense of personal direction and one's sense of emotional commitment. True, the focus changes -- as do the characteristics of this applied energy -- in an orderly and progressive way throughout the year, and in the natural sequence of events (as opposed to one based strictly on the traditional calendar) the "starting point" begins here . . . with the New Moon in Aries, by definition the first New Moon in the Spring.
The New Moon in Aries describes a time of rising ambitions, pioneering interests, personal assertion, competitive spirit, and self-promoting enthusiasm. Aries energy is adventurous, aggressive, direct, courageous, independent, initiating, vital, enterprising and passionate. It is built for moving forward and taking action now!
When this kind of energy is not well-integrated into a personal chart, or when it conflicts with more preferred strategies, the result can be action that is provocative, angry, reckless, impatient, disruptive, unsympathetic, self-willed, uncooperative -- even violent and dangerous. Aries energy is pushy -- and explosive -- and with Mars (which rules Aries) presently in Retrograde, squaring Neptune and opposing Saturn in the sky (thus Mars is "afflicted," in astrological terms), there is a lot of repressed anger around and thus the potential for some unfortunate behaviors as a result.
The New Moon in Aries this year is at 26 degrees of the sign. If you have an important personal placement near that point, this month may be especially significant for you.. In fact, if you have an important personal placement near 26 degrees of ANY sign, this New Moon event takes on special meaning. But since we must deal in more general terms here, I present the following notes for the experiences, interests and themes possible for the various signs this month.
IF YOUR SUN, MOON OR ASCENDANT IS IN ARIES: Your emphasis for the next four weeks will be on aggressively promoting yourself through outward behavior and mannerisms. The "real you" is on display, and you are wanting other people to see, take notice and respond. You may be willing to kick up a fuss in order to make this happen, but you are in no mood to be ignored.
If your placement is in the early part of the sign (or your Aries birthday is in late March), your interest may be significantly focused on using this effort, this energy, in ways that affect your income and improve your earning capacity.
If your Aries birthday is in April, you may simply be feeling your oats and more concerned with "making a spash" just for the sake of the excitement. Either way, you are roaring into the world with zest and gusto. (Like that's anything new!!) But . . . remember what I said above about the frustrations that are bearing down on everyone right now. Your tactics are notoriously flagrant -- and "subtle" isn't even a word you can spell, it seems. You may mean well. And you may just be in the mood to play. But you may also find yourself in a number of moments, where all you do is get on other people's nerves. Forewarned may be forearmed. At least take the hint. Not that you're inclined to listen.
IF YOUR SUN, MOON OR ASCENDANT IS IN TAURUS: You may be experiencing a sense of isolation, or "confined circumstances" . . . because your time of year is still in the "closed bud" stage . . . getting ready to bloom, but not yet mature enough to show outward progress. You may be spending a lot of time day-dreaming, fantasizing, contemplating, meditating, pondering, planning -- and, ok, worrying. This is in many ways a seemingly quiet month for you -- because so much energy is being used on the inside rather than out in the external world. You may be "looking for answers" or "inspiration" regarding a new personal project you want to launch soon -- but which is itself also not quite ready for public viewing.
If your placement is in the early part of the sign (or your Taurus birthday is in late April), you may be feeling unusually moody, emotionally "on edge," sensitive, even cranky. You may be working on some deeply private emotional or psychological issue, something almost too personal to mention, that feels about ready to reach some major "breakthrough" of progress.
If your placement is later in the sign (or your Taurus birthday is in early May), you may be especially aware of a need to "ease up," take a break, sit and think, collect pieces of some important new plan or vision that is just now coming into good focus. You may also be grappling with quite a sense of confusion, helplessness or even depression, depending on how well you are able to accommodate this "quiet time" in your life, and give yourself the permission you need to dream, to experiment inside the theater of your own mind for the future possibilities you are seeking, and to listen for whispered answers that may come when you least expect them. Try to find the quiet place at home and in your imagination that you need to have for this work to happen. Relax as much as possible, and have faith in tomorrow. Because time is on your side here.
IF YOUR SUN, MOON OR ASCENDANT IS IN GEMINI: This is a month for giving a lot of attention to your "goals for the future," your hopes and dreams, your vision of what you want to do with your life, your "ideals" in the broadest sense. The impulse to be very future oriented and forward thinking is especially strong now . . . as is your need for independence. You may even be feeling a bit rebellious and eccentric . . . more than ready to take a risk, just to see what happens. You may also need some social time with friends to help stir up ideas and exchange viewpoints of value.
If your placement is in the early part of the sign (or your Gemini birthday is in late May) you may have been collecting a lot of data from the outside world over the past several months . . . and are preparing to move into some quieter period of contemplation and creation. You may also feel unusually dreamy and altruistic, charitable and benevolent -- especially if one of these aforementioned friends could use a favor or two from you. Just hold onto the difference between "favor" and "sacrifice" if you can.
If your placement is later in the sign (or your Gemini birthday is in June), assertive company, or the stimulation of dynamic acquaintances could prompt some new thoughts on a course of action that will benefit you greatly in a couple of months. Your social network, humanitarian interests, and area of professional "payoffs" are where the action is for you at the moment. If you have a new career move or similar possibility in mind, now is a good time to do some data gathering. Ask for advice and different viewpoints (because you are sooooo good at that!!), and keep an open mind. This isn't the month to begin making definite moves. It is the time to let your creative imagination soar . . . and start making notes on your wish list.
IF YOUR SUN, MOON OR ASCENDANT IS IN CANCER: This month things like career, profession, public reputation, community standing and the open recognition of superiors and authority figures has your firm attention. You may be getting some sense of "reward" in this area of your life . . . and it feels mighty fine. It may also be prompting you to plan for expansion in this sector so you can do more, be more, have more, etc., over the coming year.
The stage of worldly attainment may not always be comfortable for someone as home loving and family oriented as you are. Indeed, your accomplishments here are designed more to provide for the future safety and comfort of dependents and loved ones than for sheer personal glory. Establishing your "social value" is a tactic, actually . . . for satisfying the ulterior agenda of securing yourself a comfortable private life and personal income -- and you never lose sight of that inside, where it counts.
Serious responsibilities involving social and business affairs right now may be interfering with this cherished "domestic situation," but you've been through times like this before . . . and you can keep it in perspective as long as you don't take on so much that you begin feeling overwhelmed. That's a possibility right now . . . and you might do what you can to sidestep the temptation to take on too heavy a load, just to impress those in your professional world. Keep remembering that your first priorities are not located here in the long run. Maybe that will help.
IF YOUR SUN, MOON OR ASCENDANT IS IN LEO: You may spend time this month involved in some new personal expansion or learning opportunity. Emphasis now is on sharing your wisdom with others -- perhaps in some formal teaching activity, perhaps simply as a mentor and advisor for those who can benefit from your accumulated wisdom and time-tested "rules for living."
Your philosophy of life and the chance to share your vision with others makes this a time of beneficial self-promotion (like you have a problem with getting people's attention . . . oh, please!!), and your ability to offer or apply your "advanced knowledge" with authority and passion, could produce benefits for you and your disciples. Your natural generosity of spirit certainly revels in that -- and anything that helps you occupy center stage when you're "holding forth" . . . is an asset dear to your heart.
This, then, is what's happening . . . camouflaged though it may be by the occasional smokescreen of "acquiring a larger vision," dreaming of "greener pastures," considering distant ports of call, or widening your own cultural horizons. That word "vision" . . . is an important concept here, because your more profound and abstract mental interests and pursuits are feeding themselves right now on the experiences you'll encounter, adding to the creation of those structures you'll be basing your future on before too much longer.
You are also dealing with a terrible sense of restlessness (especially if you were born in the first half of the sign) and potential instability in your personal relationships, maybe even some emergency that's already arrived if you have a late July birthday. This may not be one bit comfortable, I know, but this month you are finding some answers to help you cope in the months ahead . . . 'cause you've still got some rocky spots to get past.
IF YOUR SUN, MOON OR ASCENDANT IS IN VIRGO: This is an extremely complicated time for you, this month of "new beginnings" . . . because you are often so tangled up in the accumulated details of months recently past, you can barely see the forest for the trees. In fact, this is a time of serious and fundamental transition. In some cases it would not be overstating to call this a "resurrection" happening within and around you.
For someone as high strung as you often are, the emotional release might seem welcome on the surface, but the "rebirth" phase of this process inevitably entails a sense of "loss" or "death" preceding this moment, and the sense of joy at new creation can be shadowed by the grieving for what has necessarily passed away and out of your life recently.
I did say "complicated" a minute ago, remember? So, along with this sense of growth, evolution and change, you may also be having to handle thoughts of how to invest yourself and your resources in some enterprise of "mutual value" . . . where what you bring to the equation is vital to the success of the enterprise, but nevertheless, incomplete without the equally important contributions of others who are not exclusively under your control. You are very good about "working hard" and "taking care of details" . . . but the intensity of life right now can feel overwhelming.
Add to this a rising sense of sexual energy . . . and you begin to see why "overwhelming" can seem like an understatement.
IF YOUR SUN, MOON OR ASCENDANT IS IN LIBRA: You may be especially concerned with the progress, welfare and emotional issues of a partner this month -- or with the needs of a partnership arrangement -- or with finding a partner this month if you don't have such a structure in your life at the moment. You are very invested in other people and relationships at the moment -- which is one of the ways your personality is "built to operate," of course, but it is also a way you deflect attention away from your issues and avoid concentrating on yourself, perhaps more than you should. This focus on other people as the emotional center of your world and your sense of self this month, is especially strong if your placement is in the last 8 degrees of the sign -- (The mid-October Libra birthdays -- for those using only their Sun sign information.).
The positive side of this is your renowned ability to see issues from other people's point of view, to connect, analyze and sympathize with someone else's opinions and requirements. The problem comes when you forget where the boundaries are and start taking on the "other agenda" . . . and making it your own, in action, in thought and in emotional commitment. You get a lot of your own ego thus bound up in things that are objectively "beyond your control." And that is a real danger this month.
However, this could also be a time of really getting some perspective on the needs and requirements of the primary relationships in your life, and the people who occupy those positions. Your sense of self and your emotional commitments are really focused on "US" -- as you define that --for the next few weeks, and that sense of teamwork and solidarity is one you find naturally very comforting.
IF YOUR SUN, MOON OR ASCENDANT IS IN SCORPIO: Issues of work and service are really on your plate for this month. You are really looking for a work situation you can put your whole heart and soul into, something that makes emotional sparks fly and gives you a feeling of commitment and purpose. There's no help showing "in the sky" to make that happen at the moment, though. In fact, indications show a lot of "stalling" and interference. If any worthwhile progress happens from what is currently available at all, I would be surprised. Therefore, any such help has to come from positions in your own Natal Chart -- which then puts everything on a case by case basis, and thus beyond what I can determine in this forum.
For a sign which often has the reputation of being a silent loner, it might surprise people to know that for you the area of "work" and being "of use," of "giving service," is where things "begin" in your mind. It is from there that you find the resources for building coalitions and communities and structures from combined efforts that are far finer than what you could accomplish simply on your own.
With nothing really to "push against" at the moment, while simultaneously having so much frustration and feelings of "blockage" all around, it may be that you use this month to generate entirely different visions of where you can offer yourself and your services to create the situation you are seeking. That is certainly a metaphor that would satisfy the retrograde Mars which is in your sign at the moment -- backing up from intransigent obstacles to find (or build) alternate paths to travel. And it would further satisfy your preferred strategy of doing things your way, even if you have to start from scratch and fashion what you want to build.
If your personal placement is in the last 8 degrees of the sign, (the mid-November Scorpio birthdays, for those using only their Sun sign information) -- you may already know the kind of partners you want, and be actively (though privately and covertly) seeking them. You may be looking to draw people into partnership with you -- even if your "partner" in the new enterprise now taking shape is "the public in general." Since neither you nor Aries energy is prone to just "sit and dither" . . . this may be how you are taking action for the moment.

IF YOUR SUN, MOON OR ASCENDANT IS IN SAGITTARIUS: This month, some personal creative effort dear to your heart has your attention -- some artistic project, some relationship or involvement with a child (or brain child), some opportunity to really put yourself center stage, some chance to "do something you love" . . . preferably with someone you love has finally reached a point of "being real" in ways it hasn't been able to express before. In some ways, this is a very joyous time; in other ways, there is still a lot of work ahead -- and the "development" of this moment may seem kind of stalled, for all the optimism and enthusiasm which surrounds it presently.
With Mars in Rx (see the article here on the site detailing explicitly the energy represented by Mars Rx), this may still be a time of resource gathering and "expanding the creative possibilities" -- much more than you expected, and maybe even much more than you hoped. If you able to just relax and play with the inspirations and ideas that present themselves now, that would be a wonderful way to use this month and "wait out" the blockages of the Mars / Saturn / Neptune T-square. You're not going to get around this until nearly the beginning of autumn -- while some new structures get built, however they don't exist in usable form yet. So you might as well enjoy life -- preferably in the company of that someone you love.
You might attract attention, in fact, just by enjoying yourself so conspicuously, nobody can ignore you. It's at least worth a try.
IF YOUR SUN, MOON OR ASCENDANT IS IN CAPRICORN: Your family situation, home circumstances and private life have your attention this month, because at the moment you are re-establishing your sense of personal solidarity and emotional commitment in this area of your world -- as a way of providing for your own deep emotional needs. For a sign as devoted to status and professional achievement as Capricorn traditionally is believed to be, this softer side of the Capricorn soul is often camouflaged into obscurity. But it exists . . . no doubt about it.
Actually this private time could be very restorative and useful -- allowing a meaningful connection back into the family and home life which is at your emotional core without a lot of distractions or splintering of your attention with demands from other concerns. Besides . . . that Mars / Saturn / Neptune traffic jam I keep mentioning has things at a dead stop as far as progress and construction are concerned.
It's a terribly frustrating time for your "empire building" activities to begin with. So since it neither feels nor looks like you are accomplishing anything anyway . . . why not give yourself totally over to some "downtime" with family and loved ones? They might be both astonished and overjoyed to find they have you so much all to themselves. This is not an occasion that comes often enough, if the truth be told. Everybody could benefit from the hiatus. The memories of these moments themselves could be worth plenty. And for Capricorn, these personal treasures, are much more dear to the heart then they show . . . ever.
IF YOUR SUN, MOON OR ASCENDANT IS IN AQUARIUS: This is shaping up to be an fairly active month for you intellectually -- which is one of the arenas in which you really shine. Trouble is, for all the activity and potential located here presently, things aren't going anywhere for now. Still, don't dismiss the raw materials that may arrive, even if you don't have application for them yet. Chances are you will. Very few things come into being without a purpose. Keep an open mind, therefore, this month. Take notes even, if you're so inclined . . . about flashes that catch your attention, random thoughts that float past for your amusement, ideas which are hatching but whose time may have not yet quite come. There could be hidden treasure there, waiting to be mined when the time is right.
Also, be ready to read, study, listen, talk, exchange ideas and viewpoints with friends, family, experts, and anyone else who looks like he can hold a decent conversation. The kind of nuggets you're gathering could come in diverse packages, from difference sources, and require "some assembly" when you finally get enough components to start creating a complete picture of where you're going next. This is a month of aggressive information gathering. Just don't expect it to have meaning or an explicit purpose yet, as I said. The energy this month has nothing to "push" constructively against, and besides, there are a lot of obstacles, frustrations, and "hidden agendas" keeping matters in the outside world stalled for a while.
Consider -- if you will -- that "treading water" here could also have a purpose. In the creative process, this step is sometimes called "incubation." In other words, waiting patiently while something new coalesces, germinates, expands, reaches complexity and finally sprouts. For most people, the chance to do nothing but "sit and think" . . . sounds delightful. Your restless nature may not find it such a joy. But . . . for this month, at least, give it a try.
IF YOUR SUN, MOON OR ASCENDANT IS IN PISCES: Financial matters may be much on the agenda for this month . . . along with all the "attachments," like income issues, concerns for earning capacity and spending habits, situations regarding tangible possessions. There is a feeling of "rising ambition" in this area of your life presently, but not a lot of apparent outlet for this energy to pursue. Let's say you "WANT" . . . but don't yet see a good way to "GET" . . . or "accomplish." This is an especially strong focus for those with their personal placement in the last 8 degrees of the sign -- (or the mid-March Pisces birthdays, for those using only their Sun sign information).
Security concerns and family matters are a major part of the equation also. You want to make some changes -- specifically to gain something "more" -- better, finer, more comfortable, more suitable, more emotionally satisfying, more supportive -- than you have now. And you are finding the commitment of both emotions and ego to support these ambitions coming on strong this month. Trouble is . . . as I said . . . there isn't a "clear path of action" for you to give yourself over to. If there were, you wouldn't feel so confused and directionless.
For a while, it will feel like there are no good options for you to choose, however much you want them. But take my word, this month, the intensity of the desire is what has value. That will eventually propel you into action at the proper moment, and the paths you need to travel will be apparent then. True, it will take a while. Because "new construction" is taking place in response to the frustrations and limbo you're feeling caught in now. And for those born in the last half of the sign, late summer will bring some nice choices for a change.
Those with late February Pisces birthdays will find their gift for "operating on faith" is the key to breaking through the obstacles that everyone else is cursing wildly at this very moment. "Direct action based on philosophical principles and accumulated wisdom, tempered by conservative, structured, practical thinking". . . is the polarized energy combination you are having to manipulate. (Don't listen to those who say Pisces is to drifty to show these qualities or take this concrete advice. You can achieve miracles by following your visionary strategies. And this may be one of the times you get to prove it.)
Those of you "caught in the middle" of the sign . . . (the early March birthdays, for those using only their Sun sign information) actually have things a bit easier than your star siblings. The sense of having to find the "delicate compromise" in the middle of extreme resentment and tension will be less -- although that's a relative concept in the first place. (Who's to say, after all, how one person's stress levels feel compared to someone else's?) For you, May and June will bring some powerful new thoughts and concrete information on how to move on your financial goals. Then in August / September, the action (and energy, and courage, and initiative) to move on your "greater vision" . . . falls fairly easily into place. Your timing for making progress remains about the same as for everyone else. But the process of "delivery" is less knotted. Count your blessings. This one qualifies.
