You are the birthday child this month . . . and if we can get you to settle down and focus for a while, you may really enjoy receiving all this information about your upcoming year. You are one of the most intellectual signs of the Zodiac. Reading, writing, learning, talking, sharing viewpoints and opinions, gathering facts and data, communicating in all the ways you can imagine . . . is what your Sun Sign energy is all about.
You love knowledge. You loveaccumulating it, possessing it, offering it, and adding to it. You usually know "something" about almost any subject someone could mention. You love words . . . and jokes, and puns. You love odd pieces of wisdom . . . like trivia, and word games, and "Twenty Questions," and "Jeopardy." Some of you are an intellectual collection of clutter, hoarding interesting but useless anecdotes, silly paradoxes and contradictions, obscure "facts" about peculiar subjects, and "things you always wanted to know but really didn't care enough to look up." (YOU take the time to find out so you can either share or "show off" to the rest of us.) Others of you are virtually "walking encyclopedias" of wisdom to whom your friends and family turn instinctively when they need factual answers. (Or advice about other resources where they can learn more than you can tell them on the spot.) Most of you can spin a fascinating story around a few pertinent incidents, sell ice cubes to Eskimos, and talk the hind leg off a billy goat -- sometimes simultaneously.
Communications and the manipulation of intellectual energy are your two greatest gifts. Naturally -- two inter-related gifts, not just one. As the sign of the twins, you love having things in "pairs." One of anything is just never enough. You need "back-ups" and "spares" and "extras" -- on everything from cars (because you have to be mobile; you just hate being stranded or tied down or confined) to options and opinions. ("On the one hand . . . . . but on the other hand . . . ." is a classic Gemini conversational tactic.) It gives you a reputation for being scattered, inconsistent, even "two-faced," when you're really just "presenting all the alternatives" . . . or maybe even only "arguing with yourself." (Let's face it. For the calmer, slower thinking, "less brilliant" types . . . you can take some real "getting used to.")
There is a high-strung, finely tuned tension that goes with the classic Gemini personality . . . that can make other people as nervous as you constantly seem to be in about fifteen seconds. But you are also a person of wit, charm and dazzle . . . and those qualities give you a wide circle of acquaintances (and even admirers) . . . even if none of the persons involved actually catalog one another as "friends."
These are interesting years to be a Gemini, this block of time from 1995 to 2008. Pluto, the planetary metaphor for destruction and resurrection, fundamental transformation, and new creative efforts formed through "combined resources" is moving through Sagittarius . . . in opposition to your Sun depending on exactly when you were born in the Gemini Sign. (Those born early in the sign will be familiar with these "Plutonian experiences" . . . in the present and recent past; those born later . . . will reach them after the turn of the century. That's how astrology works . . . in a very sequential, progressive, logical, "fair and orderly" fashion.)
An opposition occurs when one planet in the circle of the Zodiac reaches an angle of 180 degrees with another one . . . forming literally a straight line, one end of the configuration -- as the word itself says -- opposing the other. Oppositions, again as the word suggests, describe situations which are often quite adversarial and contentious, when one feels "opposed," or "blocked," "confronted" or even "attacked." Oppositions almost always denote "relationship issues" . . . which have finally become unavoidable, which have to be confronted . . . which will not let you ignore them any longer. When dealing with a transiting opposition, from your side of the equation, you are putting out responses, attitudes and energy that meet with interference from another person expressing qualities that are usually very incompatible with (again, the "opposite of") yours.
This conflict almost certainly involves your own "disowned" characteristics, if the truth be told. Yet you must somehow resolve or come to terms with this polarity in the conduct of the relationship itself. You must effect some compromise or some level of peace with these qualities, this person, this experience . . . thereby evolving, growing, becoming more knowledgeable and complete . . . even becoming more fully human.
In this block of years I have mentioned, this very significant opposition experience will occur for all Geminis, handing them circumstances and life challenges they will certainly never forget. Pluto transits are indeed some of the most memorable you will ever encounter. Notice, I have not said they were one bit enjoyable or pleasant. They are, instead, transforming.
You will literally be a different person when this passes than you were before these things came into your experience. Such, too, is the nature of transformation. In this case, you are literally dealing with the experience of being broken apart into "raw elements" and reconstructed as completely as if you'd physically, psychologically, spiritually and emotionally been "born again." Death and resurrection into a better expression of creative energy is one of the great archetypal patterns in human psychology . . . and over the next 14 years . . . this theme will visit the life of everyone with a Gemini Sun Sign. And it will almost certainly take place in the context of a close personal relationship that itself either needs to be "transformed" . . . or eliminated entirely. Each of you will make your own choices when the time comes . . . regarding that.
But enough with the preliminaries . . . let's get on with the show.
Those of you born in the very early part of the sign (approximately May 21 - 26) almost certainly know what I am talking about. You have come through an incredibly difficult period of dealing with either one significant and contentious relationship, and the expression of very different values between yourself and the "other person" . . . or you have been through a time when many of your relationships in life met the descriptions I've already put forth.
You would likely describe these experiences as "traumatic." I would be the last to disagree. Having been through a couple of them myself in the mid 70's and again in the early 80's, I can sympathize with how confrontational Pluto aspects leave you literally reeling, gasping, and questioning whether you will survive what life has conspired to hand you . . . in terms of difficulties and challenges. Not only can the circumstances you are required now to resolve be brutal, wrenching, even catastrophic, but digging out from under the debris of the "break-down" that is the inevitable beginning of this process . . . can take literally years.
When Pluto begins to "remodel" your life in opposition to your Sun energy, it can feel as if everything you've worked to accomplish and become, is ripped away from you -- often by "someone else" and that person's choices. It can certainly leave you wondering again and again in the dead of night "why?" and "what's it all for?" The more introspective among you will eventually find answers that "work" . . . or at least give a tidy thumbnail explanation for what happened. You may even be able to sum up the lesson you carried away from this protracted and extraordinary situation. But, as I said, you will not be the same person you were at the beginning of this time frame. And you will know this in a very unmistakable way. The change will be far more sweeping than just what the normal process of aging and maturing would, under most circumstances, provide.
The remarkable thing about these moments is that despite the calamity and chaos that is apparent and dire in the first part of the process . . . and the substantial wreckage that is undeniably the "middle" stage of the transformation, out of all this confusion and chaos . . . new growth DOES OCCUR. In time, you will be able to look back and see how tremendously you have changed because of what happened, because, sadly, you often had no other choice. And, the silver lining is that these changes are inevitably ones "for the better." You are wiser, stronger, more "complete" than the person who started this leg of your journey . . . although it may still take some time for you to see this fully. Indeed, time is an important factor in what you are processing now.
I know this is supposed to be a document of "forecast" . . . and so far, all I've done is talk about history. But in this rebuilding phase of your life, it is important to know that time to heal from the trauma of what happened to you (and yes, that is the word that applies here) is an important part of recovery. Indeed, that's a great deal of what this year is about . . . recovery. Because the changes that occurred for you were so difficult and so sweeping that you're not going to be "fully your new self" . . . for perhaps as long as two years yet. It's important, therefore, to give yourself some gentle treatment . . . and again, time, to assess the new person you have become and the new circumstances of your life . . . and judge from that future vantage point . . . just what happened and its ultimate value for you.
In the meantime, you will find this a year more replete than usual with opportunities for new relationships and financial opportunities. You are continuing to clear away some "old structures" . . . often presenting themselves as self-limiting and self-sabotaging ideas . . . that need to be eliminated still. And in this time of quieter renovation and closure, you will be generating some very long-term visions of how to use these new resources for better days and bigger advantages ahead.
Those of you with Gemini Birthdays in the last days of May -- 27 - 31 are right in the middle of this process I've just described. And while this year is still "in the thick of things" as far as a sense of ongoing crisis and energy go, you can also count on a couple of years to recuperate and catch your breath when the dust settles. It's just further down the road . . . next year and beyond. For now, you might benefit from asking as sincerely as you can . . . what you are learning from this extraordinarily difficult relationship that has you so deeply involved and "conflicted?"
There are answers to be had if you will only ask the questions until the wisdom reveals itself to you. In what is happening to you right now, you are seeking to regain a lost sense of "power" in your life. If you can determine how you need to reintegrate this back into your character for use in the future, this situation may be more comfortable for you than if you continue to just feel yourself as being "done unto and victimized." Granted, the temptation for that is strong, but things happen in life for a reason. Your challenge now may be to find the reasons for all these current events. Life is for learning, after all, as well as enjoying the benefits and pleasures. And through these experiences, unpleasant as they almost surely are . . . you are becoming the person you need to be for tomorrow and beyond.
Those of you with the Gemini Birthdays in June . . . have this time of monumental change awaiting you on the horizon yet. The later your birthday in the month, the more toward the end of this period these events of challenge and personal emergency will occur. For now, enjoy the reprieve. I mean that sincerely. Your present circumstances are temporary at best, and while that is true of all things, the changes that will arrive in your life over the next decade will almost certainly be beyond what you presently expect. Ten years from now . . . look back and see if I wasn't right in warning you.
For all of you, this is likely to be a year of "overdoing and overspending" . . . especially in terms of "fun" things like pleasure, romance, leisure activities, self-promotion and "taking a gamble" you hope will pay off handsomely. You are strongly tempted to comfort yourself into these strategies with the decision that you "owe it to yourself to have a good time for a change!! There will also probably be overtones of "doing work over" all year in these efforts . . . with Mars just now coming out of Rx (see the article on Mars Retrograde also available here on the site), because what you're involved with is, in its fashion, a "rebuilding" of work you thought was "already done" at least once before.
You now have goals (and associates) who are encouraging your high level of optimism (especially in the early parts of both autumn this year and spring of next) and again, the tendency is to take on more in terms of activities, projects and "toys" than you either need or can actually, comfortably afford. Granted, this warning probably isn't going to change your minds much -- or cause you to exercise any more caution. You really will find yourself in full pursuit of something you truly, madly, deeply want this year . . . and you are willing to go after it with both hands. Just try to remember the definition of over-commitment as you nod your head and agree to lots of new opportunities. It really may not be humanly possible to do everything that strikes your fancy . . . or even everything you have in mind. Discretion and prudence do still have their value in your life.
You will also be coming into possession of some very ingenious, unexpected and highly liberating new "rules for living" this year . . . especially for those born in the first two thirds of the sign, . . . the late May and early June Gemini Birthdays. Just notice them as they happen . . . and notice how they affect you and the conduct of your life. It's one of the nicer parts about what you are going through presently . . . this insight into how to live a "freer," more individually tailored lifestyle.
This is another of those "long term learning experiences" that presently inhabit your world. It aims to help you savor more fully the unique creation that you are and the very special "spin" you can put on your ideas and your existence. It will, in fact, be available to you for a couple of more years . . . so just enjoy the ride. As much as you enjoy new insights, new perspectives and new forms of learning -- this part of your life may be a truly delightful little treat. Indeed, do have fun.
